Description

☆ Waddle Doo (ワドルドゥ) is the holder and Helper for Beam's Copy Ability. They are similar in appearance and name to Waddle Dees, and are most likely a relative of the species, or a mutated version brought on by Dark Matter (K64). Waddle Doo has been around since the days of Kirby's Dream Land, but since Abilities were not introduced until Kirby's Adventure, they offered no copy ability in that game. This could explain why inhaling the ones thrown by Dedede using his "Waddle Dee Toss" move in Brawl do not grant Kirby the Beam Ability. After the first game, Waddle Doo pioneered the famed copy ability, said to be Sakurai's favorite. Like his cousin, Doo can also be found drifting around on Parasols, but unlike Dee, he has the innate ability to produce a whip of sparking energy from his huge, unblinking eye. This eerie eyeball sets Waddle Doo apart from the other cute critters of Dream Land, yet gives the character an endearing ugliness that unique fans appreciate and adore. The eye of Doo also relates him to the series's other Cyclops characters, such as Peezer and Wizzer, and especially the cloud king, Kracko, who is able to spawn the litte monster during battle. Another feature of Waddle Doo is his two antenna or hairs poking out the top of his head. They have little significance, but are probably a form of simplified eyelashes.

☆☆ Waddle Doo seems to hold a special place in the Kirby series. He is right next to Waddle Dee in significance, and has been an actual playable character a few times (if you have a Kirby GBA game inserted in the DS while playing Canvas Curse, he's yours to command!). In minigames like Quick Draw and Samurai Kirby, he is often the most novice challenger, but puts up a good fight anyway. Return to Dream Land on the Wii gave Waddle Doo an even greater presence, by introducing not only a star-studded "Super" variant of the enemy for Flare Beam Ability, but also the Miniboss- King Doo- who's basically just a big gold Waddle Doo with blond hair; however, his EX appearance further implies their relation to Dark Matter, being colored similar to Zer0 and both being the leaders of their respective races. In addition, Waddle Doo is generally the first powered-enemy and signature Helper found in many of the "Sakurai-style" games, whereas the character appears nowhere (aside from where previously mentioned) in the slower, puzzle based "Shimomura-style" games.

☆☆☆ Let's take a moment to think about Waddle Doo's attacks throughout the entire series. They can range anywhere from tackling and ramming wildly (64), to poorly using a sword (Hnk), to using the basic Beam whip (most appearances), to finally performing big blasts of energy when suped-up (RtDL). Like Waddle Dee, I believe that Doo is also a character that needs to hone his Abilities, and work to acquire skill, instead of being naturally embedded with it, as Kirby is. Conversely to Dee, however, Waddle Doo is not capable of using advanced techniques using tools and weapons. He does have a greater psychic ability, though, and when properly trained, can even rival Kirby in his proficiency of Beam-based martial skills. Waddle Doo is an austere friend and companion, and will serve either Kirby as a dependable Helper, or King Dedede as a loyal soldier of his Waddle army, depending on the situation. Don't let his looks scare you- W. Doo is an alright dude!

I used to think Kracko and Waddle Doo are creepy just because of their eye (which look SUSPICIOUSLY similar), but now I think they're both adorable.
